"It's closer to ten, I'm fairly certain. We dragons have a way of sensing these things, you know?" He offers her a wry grin. That's two more eggs compared to his last clutch. "Just try not to boast about it too much in Estinien's presence. You know how competitive he is, and I would prefer not have to contend with carrying another brood again so soon!"

Though, there's certainly something to be said about the mental image of Ariane and Estinien fighting one another over the right to breed him, a thought which shouldn't even be entertained by the rational, human part of his brain. But the hungry, irrational part of his brain that houses his inner dragon very much likes this idea, and it's become increasingly difficult as of late to shut out those sort of thoughts.

He's going to chalk it up to his inner dragon being extra loud lately due to his brooding instinct taking over. Yeah, that's probably it. Most definitely.

"I... I'm fine," he gasps softly. "The eggs are just shifting a bit, that's all! It happens from time to time, though with increasing frequency when they're ready to be laid..."

Yeah, scratch that, he's definitely not going to last a week before it's time to lay these eggs! Hopefully, there won't be any unforeseen difficulties with giving birth to such a large brood this time. (It's two extra eggs, it can't be that bad, can it?)

He shifts his weight beneath Ariane, glancing longingly at his nest. "I think... that would be for the best." He gives Ariane a meaningful look as he struggles to his feet. "Join me?"

Aymeric settles himself within the overflowing pile of blankets and pillows in the corner, laying himself carefully on his side, wings folded out of the way. He sighs contentedly now that the weight of his belly is no longer pressing down on his spine. He smooths a hand across the rumpled blankets in front of him, making a space for Ariane to tuck herself next to him.

Would that he could simply lay here and sleep, curled protectively around Ariane until he's ready to give birth. He always becomes exceedingly sluggish in the days leading up to giving birth, and he wouldn't be surprised if it happened sooner rather than later.
